Arches Make the Cover of The Seattle Times
April 3rd, 2008 posted by christo
This morning I walked by a newsstand to see balloon arches on the cover of the Seattle Times, installed the previous afternoon by our Seattle Balloon Planet partner. The square arches formed a promenade tunnel through which the Seattle Mariners entered Safeco Field on Opening Day. You can read the article here.
Mike Spahia, the manager of special events for The Red Balloon Company, explained that the arches were created with helium-filled balloons. However, the client was concerned about windy conditions and requested a solution which would prevent the arches from twisting in the wind. Using metal poles which were quickly pulled from the warehouse, Mike and his team created rectangular frames and pushed the balloon arches onto each one. Because base plates were not allowed on the field, members of the stadium staff held the arches in place.
Balloon Planet partners regularly install balloon arches around the world. To see examples of various arch designs, visit our balloon arches department.
